SAME LOVE
URBAN ARTS ENSEMBLE RUHR & Company MEK
“Same Love” invites you to reflect on the acceptance, tolerance and diversity of love. Stereotypes are broken, gender roles are questioned and different forms of love are represented. “Same Love” celebrates the diversity of human experiences and makes the political dimension of love visible. The audience experiences a performance that encourages rethinking, critically reflecting on social norms and presents alternative perspectives on love.
Initially conceived as a site-specific performance in public space, “Same Love” has now been adapted for the stage in collaboration with the Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr and the Swiss company MEK. The production inspires through the unique synergy of both companies, which bring the stage to life with powerful solos, duos and trios.
Muhammed Kaltuk began his dance training at the age of 25 at the Höhere Fachschule für Zeitgenössischen und Urbanen Bühnentanz in Zurich. His aim was to further develop his body language based on his background in hip hop, but also to get to know and use other dance qualities. Muhammed Kaltuk processes his experience of being in-between - between the truths of his own family of Turkish origin and the white Swiss majority society, between the Muslim and Christian narrative of love - in his choreographies.
The essence of “Same Love” lies in the portrayal of personal experiences and the communication of a message of empowerment that enables the audience to embark on an emotional journey. In the impressive finale, all the dancers unite to make a powerful political statement for empowerment.
“Hip-hop meets contemporary. Not possible? It works very well. And how! The result had the audience on the edge of their seats. The movement language uses the inner pressure of hip-hop, the unconditional nature of expression, to heave a truly enormous amount of emotion onto the stage. “Same Love” is an impressive, very touching work!” (tanznetz)
